Fun facts about manatees:

  • Manatees are mammals, and their closest relative is the elephant.

  • Manatees are known for their gentle and friendly nature. They are quite social and often seen interacting with each other, as well as with humans, which might explain why a manatee would hug a swimmer!

  • Manatees are not in a rush, moving at a leisurely pace of about 3 to 5 miles per hour. Their calm demeanor and slow movement add to their gentle giant persona.

  • Manatees prefer warm waters and are typically found in shallow coastal areas, rivers, and springs.

  • Manatees are not silent creatures; they communicate with each other through chirps, whistles, and squeaks. This communication is crucial for mothers and calves, as well as for social interaction among adults.

  • Beyond their physical attributes, manatees are known to display curious and playful behaviors, often approaching humans in the water to interact.

Whatโ€™s better than a loving cute animal?
