Visible Mending 🧢

and how we repair ourselves through knitting...

Good Morning 🌞

Welcome to another day of Joy Hour

Visible Mending by Samantha Moore

Visible Mending is all about how knitting can soothe our minds and help us heal inside. It shares stories like a software engineer who picked up knitting again to get better at moving their fingers after a stroke, an artist who brings people together through her knitting, a mom who knits to ease her worries about her hurt son, and someone fighting cancer who knits to make the most of their days. An expert in helping people manage pain through activities explains just how knitting can be like medicine for our brains in ways we might not think of.

Each person in the story picks a knitted or crocheted item to represent them, and this choice is an important part of the film. Made with stop motion animation at Second Home Studios in Birmingham, the film uses the feel of handmade puppets to spark a kind of empathy that shows us how working with yarn can be good for people of all ages' mental health.

I started crocheting in 2022, and it's been a journey of practice, trial and error, and patience. It's a hobby I truly enjoy and always look forward to spending time on. Recently, I've found that it's also become a crucial part of my toolkit for managing anxiety.

If you're interested in beginning a fun crochet project, you can give it a try to one of these kits. They come with everything you need to get started, so you don't have to worry about making a big investment in supplies right away.
